Oh, sweet Millie. Our 22-year-old Irish Draught mare is a true legend here in Ocala. Donated to us in 2019, she has raised nine orphan foals, and she has become an instant favorite of anyone who meets her—clients, visitors, vets, volunteers, and especially the babies.

With the softest, most lovable face and gentle maternal instincts, Millie is the definition of a good momma. Despite having only one functional eye due to trauma sustained before coming to us, she doesn’t miss a beat. Her intuition is remarkable, her awareness sharp, and nothing slows her down—if anything, she seems to have turned it into a superpower of kindness.

Millie produces an over-abundance of milk, making her an ideal candidate for raising two orphans when needed. And she loves all the babies. She is often found in the pasture surrounded by foals—her own and everyone else’s—like the big, warm-hearted grandma they all gravitate toward.
