Born in 2002, Nala is a 23-year-old Thoroughbred mare who embodies pure elegance. Tall, refined, and unmistakably a chestnut mare, she arrived to ColdSpring in 2019 and has since raised six orphan foals with a blend of grace, sass, and heart.

Nala is quirky in all the best ways. She has opinions—and she’s not shy about sharing them. One rule she insists on? Her udder is strictly for foals only. Touch it if you dare… she’ll make her point very clear. Yet beneath that fiery exterior is a mare of tremendous loyalty and depth. Everyone who works with Nala ends up falling in love with her charm.

With a foal at her side, Nala softens into the kind, nurturing mother she was born to be. She is gentle, patient, and wholeheartedly devoted to the babies entrusted to her.

After spending the past seven beautiful years with us raising foals, we felt Nala had more than earned her rest. In 2025, she was officially retired so she can enjoy a well-deserved life of ease, comfort, and daily pampering. She has given so much—to us and to every orphan she mothered—and now it’s her turn to simply be loved.
