Born in 2006, Spot joined ColdSpring in 2022 and has since raised three orphan foals with patience, gentleness, and quiet devotion. She’s a mare who takes her time warming up—very much a classic Thoroughbred in that she prefers to know you before opening her heart. But once she decides you’re her person, she is loyal, soft, and wonderfully sweet.

Her racing history shows she won $38,814 on the track. What we do know is that Spot loves to play a good game of “catch me if you can” when she’s home on vacation. Thankfully, she does not teach that trick to her foals! Because of her playful streak, Spot usually wears her leather halter around the farm—especially helpful on farrier days.

Goofy and expressive, Spot is impossible to misread. If she’s annoyed, she’ll give you her signature giraffe neck swing—a dramatic, hilarious gesture that has become her trademark.

Spot also lives with a condition called swayback (lordosis), where the dip in her spine becomes more pronounced with age. It’s most often a cosmetic structural change rather than a painful one, and many swayback horses live long, comfortable, active lives—Spot included.
